SUMMER EXCURSIONS 2011, LUOSTO
NORDIC WALK TO LUOSTO FELL
This memorable evening Nordic walk to the top of the Luosto hill is suitable for everyone. Stick poles (similar to ski poles) are used to help to provide balance while walking. On top of the Luosto hill close to the weather observatory is a small cabin. There will be served coffee, tea and buns whilst admiring the outstanding view. Price 45€ adult, 35€ child.
CYCLE THE RIVER ROUTE FOR FISHING
Cycle on shingle roads and purpose-built cycle tracks as well as forest trails to the river. Enjoy fishing on the clear cool waters and sausages by the fire. Approx. 20 kilometres. Available on Fridays 11-13 and by request. Price 50€ / person
CYCLING TO THE AMETHYST MINE
This biking tour takes you on top of Lampivaara peak and bask in the splendid view of the surrounding fells and forests (weather permitting). There is the only operative amethyst mine in Europe. It may be the only gem mine in whole world that welcomes visitors. In warm cosy Lappish hut the mine visitors hear the fascinating stories of amethyst, how it was formed 2000 millions of years ago, how the place was found and how the mine is run on permanent progress principle, how people in all cultures have believed in the mystical powers of amethyst and other interesting tales found in ancient legends. After stories the visitors are guided to the mine and each will dig and find a personal lucky amethyst for keeps. After the visit we head back towards Luosto. Driving distance approx. 7-10 km. CYCLING OR HIKING TO LUMBERJACK’S LODGE SAUNA IN ORRESSOKKA
Experience a traditional Lumberjack’s lodge evening and Finnish sauna. We start by heading towards Orressokka cycling or hiking through magnificent Luosto scenery. A traditional Finnish wooden heated sauna is waiting for us to enjoy the warm bath experience. After everyone has relaxed in the sauna, we will enjoy an evening snack by the fireplace in the lodge or enjoying the summer sky by the fire outside. Return to Luosto by car transport. Duration appr. 5 hours. Hiking/cycling distance 6-15km. Available for groups of 4-20. Price 105 € / adult.
RIVER CRUISE TO VISIT THE REINDEER FARM
This river cruise shows all the best of Lapland. Admire beautiful pasting river scenery from the boat and enjoy travelling as the blowing wind leaves mosquitoes behind. We can ensure that on this tour you will have definite options to see reindeers though you might run into them upon the road as the reindeers tend to roam free. This excursion with marvellous photographic opportunities presents also real herder family daily life. Tour includes also tea, coffee and berry juice served at the Reindeer farm. SUVANTO MUSEUM VILLAGE BY RIVERBOAT
Go back to the 17th Century with a visit to Suvanto Village by river boat. You´ll be amazed at the peaceful natural scenery with a cornucopia of colours along the river bank. This unique Museum village is situated along the river Kitinen and differs from all other villages in Lapland, as a result of being saved from the destruction during the 2nd World War. It is unique and valuable example of old northern Finnish wood architecture. In the past it has also secured the title of being the most beautiful village in the whole Finland. Today the old schoolhouse is a café where your lunch included in the tour cost will be served. Duration approx. 6 hours.Price 160€ adult, 120€ child.
